Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Archie keeps a tight hold of his toys.

Archie was awake at 6am when I went to the toilet, but didn't budge from his bed. He waited till the alarm went at 6:40 to come running. What a good boy! Midnight rambles to the toilet are a thing of the past. Hopefully. Though not for me, unfortunately.

We had a walk to the Links, where we met Maggie, a puppy that he's growled at before, while on the lead. But off the lead - they're best pals. Maggie raced round and round, with a young whippet just behind her, and Archie miles behind both of them, usually cheating and cutting across corners. He was stuffed! And then Maggie and her owner walked with us, on the lead, back home.

Actually, at one point, I was in a panic - a dog was approaching from the front, a dog was approaching from behind, several prams, toddlers and squealing mums all arrived at the same time at the crossing. A week or so ago, and Archie would have barked himself silly. Today he did nothing. Just trotted on regardless. He had his collar on, and I've switched it to vibrate, which seems to be even more effective than the noise. All good.

This afternoon he had a chance to try it again. Little R came to visit. Archie was NOT keen to be in the same room at all. After an initial bark, and a vibrate, he was quiet. But wary. Even at the end, when R started squawling, he didn't flinch.

After losing all his toys to the wash yesterday, he was very possessive of them today. I was watching him playing and his wee head was drooping... eyes closing... he went to sleep clutching as many toys around him as he could. I wish the monkey's face had been facing this way...

I have signed in to the 365 Project (as LadyMarchmont) but haven't posted yet. I'm still holding out that blip will survive...
