Resiliant Tree

When we moved here to Sonoma County in November of 2012, one of the first things I noticed was that we are surrounded by oak trees.  Here is a picture I took in January of a sentinel tree standing by itself at the top of our lot. In the winter It looks dead and tortured, yet despite all that, there is something about its twisting branches, festooned with Spanish Moss and lichen which I still find interesting.

In the spring, a metamorphosis takes place. Light green leaves cover the twisted branches, which provide homes and sustenance for countless varieties of birds and numerous grey squirrels. Once again, after emerging from its winter slumbers, the sentinel tree is bursting with life and energy, reinvigorated.
