The Ear Foundation
I spent most of my day working at the Ear Foundation, as a volunteer "handyman".
There is a recently completed major building addition, and my job for the day was to replace commemorative plaques on an outer wall, plaques which record charitable donors to the Foundation, and past beneficiaries of its services.
It was hard and dusty work drilling several hundred holes in aged brickwork, and I shall have to commit another day next week in order to get the job finished in time for the official opening of the new extension in mid April.
The Ear Foundation is a charity that bridges the gap between clinic-based services, where hearing technologies, such as cochlear implants and bone conducting hearing implants are fitted, and home, schools and work - where they are used in daily life. Its vision is that all deaf children, young people and adults have the opportunity to hear, communicate and develop spoken language using state of the art technologies.i
