City Apiary
This large honey-bee silhouette symbolises a small apiary of just two hives of honey bees on the third storey of the Cornerhouse cinema and leisure complex in central Nottingham.
Each hive contains 60,000 bees (currently dormant) which have a small eco-friendly garden just adjacent, but the bees fly out considerable distances for feeding and pollen collection - as far as the University some 2 miles away.
The hope is to produce up to 60 lbs of honey and use the sales income for charitable purposes; and to use the wax for candles and propolis (a natural antiseptic).
Interesting and imaginative project.
