Earthworks
If part of your day, every day, is to take a photo, then, naturally, you end up always on the look out for things to photograph. Also, it's nice when you are aware that a major change is taking place and to be able to journal that change.
I am currently frustrated on both of the above counts by the massive engineering project on the M6 where they are replacing the junction at Lancaster (junction 34, fact fans). The problem with that junction is that it's right by the river and the slip road joining the motorway is necessarily short as you need to be on the motorway before the bridge. Consequently, I thought the problem didn't have a viable solution.
However, it transpires that they are going to solve the problem by building a new bridge for the slip road so you can join the motorway on the other side of the river! This is an extraordinary and HUGE project. But I think there's even more to it than that because there are massive earthworks on the other side of the motorway, too.
I'd love to photograph that whole process but there's simply nowhere to stop and get my camera out. Today, though, there was a traffic jam that enabled me to capture this shot, which represents only a tiny proportion of what's gong on.
