Wait! Is that grass I see?

Dear Diary,

When I went out to get the mail I had to stop in my tracks.  Is that brown patch really grass?  For the first time a small area of my front lawn is free of ice and snow...I had to mark the occasion.

We are seriously behind in the spring melt.  In fact, it is only in small areas that face south do I see any evidence that this winter is slowly becoming history.  The sun definitely has more strength now but with temperatures still below freezing most days it will be Memorial Day before the huge piles are gone!

Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.
