Wentworth Post Office
We went to visit our daughter today - it is her birthday tomorrow and we so we celebrated a day early so that we could go out for lunch.
We went to the Rockingham Arms in Wentworth for our food and then went for a walk around the village and visited the garden centre.
As we walked back to the car we came across this little Post Office building - which doubles up as a rather nice 'traditional' sweet shop - all different sorts of sweets in big jars - sold by the quarter (well no not really it's a 100g these days). So we had to stop and buy some - it would have been rude not to!
The building itself dates from 1914 replacing once across the road that now forms part of the Rockingham Arms accommodation building. During the war (WWI) towns and villages were encouraged to cover up any place names to confuse any potential invaders. This building has the village name carved in stone and so it was boarded up. In the full size image you can see the screw holes that were used!
Later we went back to our daughter's house for a nice cake and cup of tea.
She is going on holiday for a few days so we offered to look after her dogs to make it easier for them - so we now have a house full of sleeping dogs.
Walking is going to take a while as I can't manage all four together so there will have to be shifts!
