Capturing my Journey

Mitzi

Mitzi is technically a Teckel but for some reason she never grew her wirehaired coat. She is a working Daschund for a stalker friend of ours. He feeds his deer in the winter and manages them very carefully to keep a healthy herd on the hill. (did his feeding for him one day last winter, just amazing to see all the deer coming to the feed like the sheep usually do!!) Mitzi is trained to track wounded and shot deer for her owner. He had let Mitzi out the pick up this morning after feeding and she got on to a scent of a deer and very naughtily ignored his whistle and disappeared off after the deer. Him and his wife had been looking for her all morning and called us at lunchtime to see if we could help them look. We brought some of our dogs thinking they might follow her scent. I took Breagh, Pip and Dris and not long after walking into the dense woodland where she had disappeared my dogs began to follow a scent. So I duly followed them and we went for ages and I was beginning to think that maybe my dogs were having me on when they suddenly put their tails up and ran off. I ran after them to find Mitzi less than impressed with my dogs. She saw me though and came running over to my call. I was so pleased to find her. We were all prepared to be out until dark looking for her. Its a worry with her wee short legs that she would become bogged down. Anyway some very happy owners and I am very proud of my dogs and im glad I trusted them to show me the way.
