A haven of calm ...

... and tranquility.

Today I sat and read my kindle and had my lunch at the pond below the terrace of the mansion house. It was welcome shade on a hot, muggy day.

I decided to try moving off auto today. I know what you're thinking - it has taken me a long time. I am such a scardy cat. Although I have read the book I still can't get my head round ISO, F stops, aperture etc. I'm hoping it will just click one day!

I have tried to capture the contrast in shade of the area under the trees where I am sitting and the hot light of the day beyond the gate and to keep them both separate.

Not sure it's worked but this is as good as it gets on manual for now!
