West Knighton Heath
This disused sand and gravel quarry looks like soemthing from a distant planet but is actually pretty good for birds and wildlife. Woodlarks often hang out on the path and there are always lots of nuthatches and woodpeckers in the wood.
Apparently the site has been bought by Developers Habitat First Group, who are going to develop it over the coming years to include 30 holiday chalets and lodges while protecting the 'natural' habitat. It will be called Silverlake.
I hope they protect the 'unnatural' habitat as well because that's the most interesting thing.
