What's our Impact?

We were invited to meet colleagues  in Birmingham today, but the train and air fares were a bit high for this time of year.  If we had gone it would have cost us £700 by plane and £425 by train.

It seemed to me that it was quite an expense for a two and a half hour meeting so we tried to Skype to help cut the costs and keep our carbon contribution low but-that wasn't to work either-it was a real pain, particularly since I'd had to cancel three meetings to take part.

In years gone by I would have been very angry at our inability to contribute to the meeting but one thing I've learned from life is that sometimes the best laid plans don't always work. So we sent a text instead with a few facts about what we would be doing at our next session-not a great big contribution but at least our colleagues would have an idea of what we are planning next.

The meeting we were to attend was to discuss the impact of adult learning across the UK and it's always good to hear what others are up to so while I was twiddling my thumbs waiting for Skype to burst into life I thought l'd  dig out the feedback from our recent learners events. It covers five categories and tells us about their:

1. Experience of their first meeting
2. Advice and Guidance
3. Communication and Feedback
4. Ongoing Support and Project Involvement
5. Finish and Follow-up

The flowers produced as a result show just how people have grown and developed but most importantly the impact of the image of the flowers is greater than I had imagined. Perhaps the universe decided I was to have a meeting of a different kind today.

“Each meeting occurs at the precise moment for which it was meant. Usually, when it will have the greatest impact on our lives.”
