Painting
Sometimes, I'm really glad that I don't have time to write my journal entry on the day it is for.
Sometimes, a day can be so frustrating, so many things trying to drag you down, that you need the day before it AND the day after it to bolster you.
Today and Saturday have been yesterday's bolsters. I've backblipped yesterday. It was a good day, but there were frustrating bits, sad bits, irritating bits, stressful bits. I suppose not every day can be thoroughly lovely.
But.
Today has been.
I was awake at 4.30am washing up and ordering soapnuts for the laundry. Back to bed at 5am and slept in til 9.30am with the boys! Late breakfast, laundry and more washing up done, and then we finally got round to making our pavement/sidewalk paint. I've been wanting to do this for AGES. All it is is cornflour, water, and food colouring. We spent a happy half hour or so painting the paving slabs in the back garden, drawing numbers to photograph to make a birthday card with.
Then we made our messy mama crafts so I could take photos for the instruction sheet! I don't recommend trying to do all three crafts in the half hour before rushing off out to school, but Ben is far more interested in digging at the moment so racing through the crafts was no issue for him! He went to school dirty but happy. I even got a kiss 'bye today! It's good that he does like school, that last week was just a tired week.
While he was at school I felt like I accomplished very little but actually I did what the whole point of him going to preschool is about - I played with Charley! I had special Mama-Charley time, where I could actually focus on him. That was good.
We went to pick Ben up and he came RUNNING out of school with a great big smile on his face! That made me happy! Home again and all he wanted was to read books. I should be happy about that really ;) but all I wanted to do was get the paddling pool out, and finish painting the bench with our homemade paints!!
Eventually I got him back outside but the sun had gone from the garden and with the breeze it was a bit too cool to get the pool out. I've promised him that we'll fill it up before tots tomorrow, and by the time we get home again it should have warmed up a little. Still, we sat in the garden and Ben played with (the many) rocks (that he has brought home from the beach) while Charley sat in his bumbo watching us. I painted the bench eventually - it looks lovely and summery and I'm looking forward to it fading and weathering over the summer months!
Edit - quite a few people have asked how I do my montages! They're all compiled in the GIMP. The iPhone pics are edited in either PhotoWizard or Instagram while I lie in bed sending my kids to sleep, then imported to iPhoto on my macbook and exported to the GIMP for compiling...
