Ephemera

Ephemera danica to be more exact, or mayflies if you prefer. Either way there are huge numbers of these oddly likeable insects about at the moment (I like them anyway, although clearly not everyone shares my enthusiasm). They are a very ancient family of insects and haven't altered very much in the past 300 million years, although the ones with a 45 centimetre wingspan are regretably no longer with us.
