Life through the lens...

The Old Lodge

These lovely flower troughs were all round The Old Lodge Hotel, Malton, where we had the dinner and wine tasting.
The grounds were full of daffodils, and other spring flowers. Would have looked better if we had had some sunshine!

This time we weren't staying in the main hotel, but just round the corner in The Old Lodgings.
Three 18th century cottages, which had been converted into a pub, and then taken over by the hotel a few years ago, and converted into 8 bedrooms, along with a lounge and kitchen area. All very nicely decorated.
Our bedroom was huge, with 2 double beds (only used one!) and a lovely big bathroom, with bath and shower.
We soon made ourselves at home, and opened the champagne!

7pm and a short walk to the main hotel, and the start of the evenings festivities!

A glass of Prosecco in the bar, was a good start!

Then into the dining room for the start of the meal.

A German Riesling, Dr Loosen Estate QBA 2013 alcohol only 8.5% Would have been nice as an aperitif, but went well with the consome soup.
We were each given a syringe with a liquid inside, which when squirted into the hot soup formed noodles! (too gimmicky for me!)

A mixed salad of assorted leaves,  avocado, mango, pomegranate, pine nuts and a pesto dressing, was teamed with a
Los Haroldos Malbec Rosado 2013 . from Argentina ( didn't like this wine)

Sea Bass with a salsa of chilli, and cucumber
Nice fresh white Spanish wine.....Torres Vina Esmeralda 2013

Pork roulade with sage and onion, mini black pudding and cider gravy
Red wine Santa Alba Reserve, Pinot Noir 2014 from Chile.
(Wine was good, but we didn't like the roulade.)

To finish we had a trio of desserts :
Shortbread topped with strawberries and cream, Chocolate and mint cheesecake, and a kiwi fruit meringue.
So it was a sweet wine, Bon Courage Late Harvest Gewurztraminer 2013 from South Africa.
A lovely finish to the meal.

Somehow we managed to walk back to the  Old Lodgings, just before it started raining.
We all went to bed feeling very happy!

(The wines were presented by Paul Tate-Smith who has a shop in Malton.)
