Shorne Country Park

Today we went to Shorne Country Park in North Kent, this time to take part in an orienteering event as opposed to organising one.  There was light drizzle all day so not a day for taking photos.
The photo is of the very unusual Visitor Centre which was built in 2006.  It was the first structure in the UK to be constructed of coppiced sweet chestnut which was available next to the site.  Apparently Kent has the most acres of sweet chestnut in the UK, traditionally being used for hop poles.  The building is eco friendly with wind and solar power,  recycled rainwater and bio-mass heating.   The curved lines are supposed to reflect the shipbuilding heritage in North Kent and make for a very attractive building
