36 Lime Street, Ouseburn
36 Lime Street opened as a flax spinning mill in 1848. In 1983, it was a huge derelict warehouse in the run down Ouseburn valley of Newcastle. A guy called Mike Mould saw the area potential and bought the warehouse. Now Ouseburn is a cool area with trendy music venue, the Cluny and a hub of artist activity. 36 Lime Street is filled with artists studios and today was an open day. Inside is a rabbit warren of studios with artists displaying paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewellery. I've visited before and discovered my favourite local artist, Jim Edwards. I've wanted to buy one of his beautiful paintings of Newcastle ever since and today was the day that I finally did! So excited to have my new picture :))
This is a photo outside of Lime Street studios with the old tower from the factory and the Byker bridge behind. The area has an interesting print works where you can learn to make prints, a pottery studio, seven stories children's story museum and a small farm. Its lovely to sit outside here in the summer.
Afterwards it was pouring with rain so we had a Breaking Bad marathon. Cant believe the ending of the final ever series! Its been an amazing show.
