View from up Grey's monument
My long awaited trip up Grey's monument! Unfortunately, I got a grey foggy day! It was still exciting to finally see inside though. Got chatting to the man working there, who let me in through the little door at the base of the monument. He said they're going to start opening it more regularly from the summer so I'll have to come again, on a brighter day. Apparently you can see pretty far from the top when it's clear. Was we'll work tackling the 164 narrow steps.
I paid £3 to get in. Inside, I saw an old sign lying on the ground from 10+ years ago saying "open every Saturday- cost 50p". I told one of the volunteers at work who remembers paying 1 penny to go up in pre-decimal money, which means she must have gone at least 43 years ago- bet the view was very different then! Although, not as different as the view the Earl himself has had over the past 176 years that he's stood there, pride of place at the top of Grey Street.
