Massacre
A change from the usual routine of office and computer and meetings. There was a gathering of Accountable Officers from a wide variety of bodies to hear some presentations from the Scottish Government and colleagues on the duties and challenges of the role.
The experience in the room was varied with some, like myself, with less than 2 years experience. And others with over a decade. Lots to discuss and learn about, including how we address propriety in Scotland.
The event was held in the National Library of Scotland where we had the opportunity to see after the meeting the exhibition on the 1715 rebellion. It was fascinating and included a Jacobite sword, engraved with the words "No Union"; a display on how the Hanoverians came to rule; many documents from the first Scottish Parliament. And the original order authorising what became known as the Massacre of Glencoe which holds such a place in the history of Scotland.
Photography was not allowed in the exhibition for understandable reasons. So this has to do instead. But an exhibition such as this - for free until 10 May - merits a much longer visit and exploration.
And then it was back to the office. Etc etc.
