Barbary Squirrel

Day two was cloudy and very very windy so decided to go for a walk along the coast to check out a small fishing village and nearby salinas. The coast line was very dramatic with plenty of photo opportunities but this one of a Barbary Squirrel got the winning vote today. They apparently aren't too popular with the locals and shouldn't be fed but they seem to know all the tourist spots and appear from behind rocks as soon as you start rummaging through your bag. They gave me rare opportunity to shoot some wildlife picks close up so charming were they, they did persuade me out of a biscuit.

Another highlight was an excellent lunch served up in the only restaurant, called El Colocolito, in the pueblo. We had a whole red snapper caught locally and cooked to perfection. For some reason I hadn't expected such a great gastronomic experience on this trip but this was the first of several fantastic fish meals during the week.

Whilst in the restaurant a strong shower hit making it doubtful whether to continue the walk but as it turned out the timing was perfect as had it hit at any other time during the exposed 17k walk we would have surely been soaked to the skin and miserable having gone out lightly dressed.

Final highlight was reaching a black volcanic sand beach on which stood a ruined castle. Like I say plenty of photos today but the squirrel took the biscuit. badum tish !
