The Nether Kirkyard

Also known as Ecclesgreig, this old graveyard is in the nature reserve at St. Cyrus where I was walking today with my walking group. There's no sign of the church these days as it was abandoned when a new kirk was built about 1650. Many of the mainly 17th and 18th century gravestones are so weathered that the writing is unintelligible and are sinking into the sand. I woke up this morning to a smattering of snow and nearly didn't go on the walk. I'm glad I did as it turned into a grand day for a walk, bright, blustery and cold - and great scenery!
