A night out at the Tivoli
Last night we ventured into the big city to see the Aberdeen Youth Music Theatre's production of The Addams Family musical. What a joy to see so many talented and enthusiastic young folk putting on a truly professional and very funny performance.
Our elder granddaughter was playing the part of Grandma. Her transformation from a teenager into an ancient and bent old lady was a testament to the skill of the make up artists. In the superimposed photograph she is on the left and on far right, before and after the treatment.
The performance took place in the newly re-opened Tivoli Theatre. The theatre was first opened in 1872 and continued to cater for theatre-going audiences until 1966, when the main auditorium began use as a bingo hall, remaining so until 1997, when the Tivoli closed its doors to the public. This historic theatre then gradually fell into such a state of disrepair that it is was listed on the Scottish Civic Trust’s Buildings at Risk Register for Scotland. Now, after much effort it has been beautifully restored and is once again a living theatre.
