New Beginnings

Went out today for afternoon tea with a lovely family who made us feel very welcome. No time for gardening and weather abysmal but I did a quick seedling check when we returned home. This is the first of many painstakingly pricked out seedlings which will add another dimension to the garden in summer. It's a delicate operation and a useful opportunity to practise mindfulness and just being attentive. Each little seedling is different and needs to be given every opportunity to reach maturity. They should be handled by the cotyledon (the seed leaf) which dies away once the seedling establishes itself. The stem can be easily bruised. These seedlings are Ammi Majus which is an umbellifer, rather like cow parsley, and foams away at the back of my white border.
