Old friends

The new black out blind worked a treat and only very minimal diffused light crept onto the bedroom ceiling this morning. I awoke earlier than I thought I might but got up around 10 to go to PPP+H's for a nice catch up and coffee, on their new sofa. It's been a long time since I've spent a few hours with them and it was a good morning.

I returned home in time to attend the Good Friday service in church. I read the first reading. The service was hugely moving and sobering, reminding me well and truly of why we get a long weekend's break from our usual daily work routine. The service began in silence, included a full reading, using three voices, of the Passion from St. John's gospel, followed by the veneration of the cross by the congregation at around 3pm, reckoned to be the time of the crucifixion, and ending with a silent exiting from the church. It was a long service of one and a half hours but one of the most important of the year.

I am slightly ashamed to say I then went straight off to do a supermarket shop and dashed home, changed two beds and tidied up before S and E arrived at 6ish. They had a good nose round the new decor as they haven't been to mine since before Christmas. They seemed to like it all. We enjoyed a relaxed evening of cooking, dinner, chat (see and I each tucked up under a fluffy throw) and wine and it has ended with a nice cup of horlicks which I have brought to bed.
