Uda Walawa elephant family

We were lucky again on our visit to Uda Walawa National Park, an hour's drive north from where we are staying. The park is famous for its elephant population and because the vegetation is less dense than at Yala it's quite easy to spot them. We saw about 20, including this family party of a mother with her one-week old baby and her older 'baby' still tagging along. The mother kept the tiny baby very close as she roamed through the forest.
After wards we went to the elephant transit home nearby to watch them feeding the 30 or so orphaned baby elephants they are looking after and preparing for release back into the wild.
A great day out, much enjoyed by locals (it was a public holiday) as well as foreigners
