Foster mum

This cow calved prematurely and lost its calf so T raced over to a neighbouring dairy farmer and bought a very young calf which had been taken away from its mother to suckle our cow.  Very often this doesn't work but the cow had a lot of milk to give so T and B first put it  in the cattle crush and pushed the calf up to its udder and it sucked!  The next test was to put both of them in the box together for the night and see whether it took more milk.  In the morning the calf looked full so the two had obviously taken to each other. Lucky calf and lucky cow!  If this arrangement hadn't worked we would have had to hand rear the calf and buy another one to go with it so it wouldn't have been lonely.
