Grandpont Nature Park – 8.15 on 7 April 2015

1 hour 49 minutes after sunrise.

Week 14, a gorgeous morning and as I left home I expected bright sun for today’s picture. But I’d forgotten what the morning sun does to the river (under that bridge to the right) and instead everything was swathed in a gentle mist.

The colour in front of the seat is two plastic bags stuffed full of last night's empties. They might belong to a group of teenagers, but more probably to people with many more years' drinking experience. Unlike the city centre, this park offers a place to sit relatively undisturbed as well as, if you know where to look, sheltered hollows to pitch an illegal tent. The proximity of a primary school means that a few years ago the police came down very heavily on those leaving syringes here, but drinkers are already banned from the centre and you can't keep moving them on for ever. Or can you?
