Mill Stream

There are so many facets of the River Test where it flows through the Hampshire town of Romsey, little more than six miles from its estuary into Southampton Water, and each of them as worthy as the next to claim a spot in our daily Blipfoto.
This part of the river is where it passes the town's Mill Lane and I can remember a time when these gardens were venue each year for a mayoral garden party.
As it is this spot is still one of the most picturesque parts of the chalk stream river which provides some of the most spectacular trout fishing in the country.
At this spot too, it is still difficult to visualIse that the open sea is not very far downstream and waters though dredged are deep enough to accommodate some of the world's biggest ocean-going container ships.
Here there is a sense of tranquility, a view of the river at its best, and apart from the fish, a haven for ducks.
I am sure that in weeks to come we will feature more views of the river — the seasonal changes highlighting an ever changing environmental beauty.
