At the Chalk Face

It is a long time since I bought chalks to draw on a slate, but today I have. Apart from the slate, perhaps I could draw a hopscotch grid on the patio or indulge in a bit of graffiti on some neighbouring walls........Mmm, perhaps not.

When I was a little girl during WWII, my father who was in the Ordnance Corps stationed at Aldershot in the Salisbury Plain, sent me coloured chalks which I thought came direct from the chalky ground there. In mitigation, I was preschool, and maybe that was what I was told, rather than the fact that they had been purloined from army supplies.
