Sunderland

On the trail of any remains of the Jarrow and Wearmouth monasteries.  One way and another we failed to find any (partly bad luck and partly poor reading of the guide books) but we did see this brightly coloured decoration round an underpass.  Later on we also failed to see the museum at Segendunum as it closed at 4.30 rather than 5 as stated in my guide.  Still, the metro system in Newcastle is excellent, the sun shone and we had a good dinner.
