Brimingham Rollers
Bonkers day today picking up scrap wood from John, friend, animal breeder, master walking-stick maker, all-round talented man. I've never pictured animals before so here's the first, two Chocolate Labradors, 6 weeks old, already sold, out of a litter of seven (six chocolate & one golden - don't ask, I didn't understand either). We also saw pigeons, not just any pigeons, but the Birmingham Rollers! These domesticated pigeons are developed through selective breeding for their ability to do rapid backward somersaults while flying. Whilst flying? Apparently so. And if that isn't mad enough, a similar breed, the Parlour Roller, can't fly; they spin backwards, somersaulting on the ground. I can do neither.
You can just about see John in the background, camera shy & not quite as photogenic as those in the foreground.
