Reminding myself that I do live near a beach

Had an appointment at a firm of lawyers that are on one of the big beaches in the area. In fact, the main road more or less follows the beach and edge of the Gulf of Mexico for about 25 miles, so I decided that on my way back I would take a decent Blip for once.

Today was signing for another house in the growing empire. This one isn't ours but owned by a friend and we'll be managing it from here on. One obstacle was the annoying lawyer firm it had to go through - we certainly didn't choose this firm.

The first email I had from the lawyer, Kerry, was a one line "sent from my iPhone". No introduction, no sign off, no salutation, nothing. Barely had capital letters. Not really what you expect from some high priced attorney. And the iPhone is no excuse, perfectly good mail client to type something properly - it's not like the old days of SMS and 9 button keyboard.

But they rejected the power of attorney we've used for some time and did their own (at our cost). They didn't set a time and date to close on, although the bank they are representing did, they were out at lunch when I arrived at their designated time, the bag didn't even say good bye at the conclusion of the transaction! She left to get something copied and a secretary was left to show me out.

All in all, a set of lawyers I hope never to meet.

But today is slightly torn though. Meant to be preparing for an event next week. I have one full day left before I have to leave for New York and it looks like it'll be me on my lonesome this year, I foresee lots and lots and lots of driving (thank heavens it's in a great car). I really have to decide what we are doing for the future, whether to continue the events or not, or whether to look for a replacement for me, and that goes with the event we do here and in Europe. I've been doing this for 10 years now, and it's not exactly old, but I have different priorities these days. I've loved working on the houses for instance, and so the event really is a distraction from that. If I didn't have to travel to NY on Friday, I would have several more weeks at the rental getting it ready. Instead, I'm losing at least 3 weeks from this.

Gonna feel a bit better about things once I'm on the road on Friday I figure.
