Between fen and mountains

Flowers of the garrigue

Today's walk was over rough terrain but did not involve two much climbing,  560 metres up and 16 mms distance.  The main interest was that we left the Pyrenees behind and drove through the vineyards to the rough limestone ridges of the Fenouillèdes.  This was principally to see the wild flowers which are just coming out.  At times the walk defied the criteria of the randonnée in that hands had to be put on the rock face and it became a scramble.  We were not disappointed as regards the flora. I saw wild tulips, wild irises,  asphodèles, thyme and rosemary in abundance and yellow and white orchids.  More photos of the flowers and the terrain can be seen here.
