Guatamala!

We left our Mexico hotel at 7.45 this morning and arrived here at Lake Atitlan at 6.30pm! The border crossing was fun...surrounded by young soldiers with big guns and young barefooted hippy backpackers..... No photos allowed!

The best thing is that, after our little group of 12 have travelled in a small 16 seated, we now have a fabulous brand new 32 seater air con coach. We all have a double recliner seat each We were so excited after being a bit cramped. We have a new guide, Sandra, a very well organised young woman.

Admittedly we have been driving along the main Pan American highway but Guatamala seems much more organised, even prosperous looking than the places we saw in Mexico.

The local buses are called "chicken buses" because people often carry their animals to market on them. They are old yellow USA school buses but redecorated with chrome and many bright colours...all different
