Sunday in Chichicastenango

For the next few days we will be looking at how the Mayan people live today. We visited the Sunday vegetable and livestock market at Chichi(abbrev). Absolute colourful chaos. This shot is of the some villagers also taking the opportunity to visit their church. Again it is a combination religion, this time of Catholicism and astrology, Not as extreme as the one we visited the other day, this one is accepted by Rome!

Mayan women and men wear colourful clothes which the women weave and make for their families. Our guide can tell which village a Mayan comes from as each village has specific patterns. Most speak Spanish as well as one of the many Mayan dialects that have developed over the centuries.
