Back on the river again!
Yes, we finally managed it earlier today to get "Reluctant Lady" aka Quasar back on the River Mersey after a break of about 6 months. Picture 1 (the big one) is showing the business of a "lock out" when we are all waiting for the outer lock gate to open. Picture two is just before the outer gate opens.- the road lifting up to allow the masts of the yachts through. Then we are out and heading up-river - the speed of the incoming tide can be seen from the yellow buoy. We got as far as the entrance to the Manchester Ship Canal and on the Garmin Navigator it's called "The Port of Manchester" (which is still a further 25 miles to go!). Then across river to Garston Docks - a place of my youth, with its own glass bottle works right by the docks (long since gone). Heading across the river towards Birkenhead is another chance to see the famous Liverpool skyline. Finally two pictures of Snowdrop - one of the ferries across the Mersey - now redecorated in a "razzle dazzle" camouflage style to commemorate the centenary of WW1, Then back safely to the marina to enjoy our bacon and egg butties (as mentioned yesterday). All-in-all a real boys day out!
