Géopoéticiens à l'oeuvre
I'm part of this group of people who wander with cameras, recorders, etc., and try to "inhabit" the space. We've explored villages that were destroyed in the 1970s, the Montreal's river banks, alleyways, train stations, etc. Typically, what we do is that we just walk, take pictures, reflect.
This was AvdK's "field trip": a walk on her morning commute, in what she calls the "death corridor": for many reasons, many people have died on this 4-block walk that takes A from the old part of town to the university. Some were shot. Some died killed by a car. Some almost died when a steel column from the mega hospital that is being built fell to the street.
So, on Friday, we accompanied A, M, B, and me. M was recording sounds. B was photographing specific spots indicated by A. And I was photographing as well, trying to get my own sense of what A was describing. It was a fascinating walk, in smoldering Montreal!
