Deal porters
Sculpture overlooking Canada Water.
It's very frustrating trying to get a proper view of this. The information board telling you about it is behind the hedge where there is no view of the sculpture. They really ought to cut a view port at that point.
It's a tribute to the area's industrial past.
Canada Dock mainly handled imports of softwood from Canada. The sculpture shows the porters who transported the wood on their shoulders from the ship to the quay.
I was there this evening for a fascinating talk on London's Lost Rivers by author Tom Bolton. Fitted in nicely with our current Footprints River Walks Festival. He's planning to cover the Moselle (Haringey that is) in his next book.
