Anzac Day wreaths, Ngatimoti, NZ
The Historical Association I belong to decided to attend the Anzac Day service at Ngatimoti and then have a picnic lunch and their monthly meeting in the grounds of St James Church, Ngatimoti where the War Memorial stands. We then listened to two local historians talk about some of the men who left that small district and lost their lives in WW1.
100 years today the New Zealand and Australian soldiers landed at Gallipoli and from that grew the word and association known as ANZAC.
From this small rural community 42 men served in WW1 and 20 of those died. Those same names are still in the valley beside the Motueka River.
Mr S and I had already attended dawn parade at Motueka along with a huge number of others. The same was experienced at Ngatimoti- double the usual number attended.
A cup of tea and a scone followed, we had our lunch and talks and now it's time for a nana nap and a chance to see what is happening in the rest of the country.
