The vibrant city beach at Galle Face

We decide to explore Colombo today and take a local bus to the Fort area. We walk up and down, through the market area which is called Pettah. Its interesting but not very pleasant in the heat. We have a small lunch in a local place and walk, via the lighthouse, to Galle Face beach. Its a small, packed city beach and is full of locals swimming and enjoying the sun.

We then walk to Viharamahadevi Park and, again, its packed with locals enjoying the sunshine, playing badminton and riding ponies. Its the last day of their new year holiday period and they're making the most of it! At dusk the hundreds of fruit bats take to the sky which is quite a site as they're huge.

Suddenly the clouds come over so we head off and get a tuk tuk back to our apartment, just in time before the heavens open and there is a massive thunder storm.
