The islands on the horizon are called "The Desertas" (pronounced "The Deserters") ... The name seemed quite appropriate, given that we were about to desert Madeira ... :o(

Not that we wanted to leave, of course ... far from it ... In fact I'd have stayed there all summer given the chance ...
But all good things come to an end ... and apart from the nightmare at the start of the holiday, I enjoyed every minute ...
