On top of the world
Levada walk day. Quite ambitious. But absolutely the right choice.
The Lakes of Madeira. There aren't really any and they warn you that it's not like our Lake District when you book.
A drive along the West coast, through the tunnels near Puerto do Sol and Magdalena do Mar, to Loreto. Vital loo stop, and then nearly up to Rabacal.
This view was high up over the developing towns, clouds interesting and you can see for miles.
At Rabacal you head for the heather forest, waterfalls and little lakes. My camera stopped working. I don't think walking through the waterfall did it any good.
Magical trek along a modern levada and then a scary vertical climb through the gorse to the next level, the oldest levada on the island.
Cows and beauty all the way.
This 10km walk is a stunner and all Madeira addicts should try it.
