Birthday treat

Normous and I share a birthday season (mine was yesterday and Normous is next week) so our son and d-i-l took us out for the day today. We visited the Bombay Sapphire distillery at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire. I'm not a gin drinker but found the tour very interesting. The distillery is housed in a 1,000 year old mill on the River Test. The buildings have been skilfully adapted and economically organised so that no energy is wasted. Some of the heat generated from the distilling process is used to heat these dramatic glasshouses. At the end of the tour we tasted cocktails made from this luxury gin brand. Who knows, I may be converted!
After this excellent tour we were treated to lunch in a nearby pub and then back to their house to spend time with their boys. A good birthday celebration.
