Pink hawthorn?

I had to go and check on one of my geocaches today as someone had said they couldn't find it. It was still there, a bit dirtier than when first placed, but definitely still there.

Across the path was some beautiful pink blossom which looked to me like a hawthorn, but pink. It did look to me like hawthorn flowers and leaves, but perhaps it is a cultivated variety - but then what is it doing in a wood by the Water of Leith??
