Floating Fossils

A wet windy day called for  a spark of indoor creativity. This was provided by a mirror, a plant and four fossils strategically placed on the mirror, and then rotated for the final image so they look as if they are balancing in space, defying the laws of gravity.
"Whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being evolved." Charles Darwin.
The top fossil - orthoceras - dates back to the Silurian Age 400 + million years ago and is the earliest recognisable animal and ancestor to the modern day squid. Even though it was among the earliest forms of life, this class of nautiloid is still considered one of the most intelligent forms of ocean life. Having a long straight shell the fossilised remains have an iridescent gemlike quality when polished.
