Sand Hill Cranes (day 2 camping Lake Kissimmee)
While out on our little jon-boat this afternoon with the dogs, we headed for an open grazing area at the entrance to Tiger Creek, where we usually let the dogs run a little. (we keep them away from the water-alligators). The Ospreys still have a youngster in the nest on a tall pole/platform there.
-But today we were privileged to see a pair of sand hill cranes dancing together! we'd never seen anything like it- they jumped, and bowed, and walked/turned in step, all around for quite a while (and didn't seem to mind us). It was amazing. I didn't do very well catching some of the quick leaps, etc,and the male picked up clumps of dirt or grass and threw them several times. Sometimes they were too far away from each other to get them both in the shot. (there was nothing x-rated afterwards, they just went back to feeding and walking- we thought maybe an affermation?) It was very exciting to experience- together all the shots tell more of a story than I can show here.
P.S. Happy Birthday to brother Ed!!
