Mauna Kea

At the 9,000 ft visitor centre on Mauna Kea there was a demonstration going on against the siting of a 14th observatory on the mountain, which is apparently the best place in the world for observing space. The Hawaiians consider the mountain to be consecrated and object to the proposed 8-storey observatory building.
The demonstrators sang Hawaiian songs and were very friendly - I was given a hug!
