Flour
He was a small guy and he was trying to get me to give him a Boston Cream on the understanding that he would come back and pay for it later. I just smiled and pointed to the "No Credit" sign on the wall behind the counter. He told me that he lived really near the bakery - "right here in the Village" - and that I must have seem him around. I told him that I hadn't and that it wouldn't matter if I had. He concentrated on drawing with his finger in the flour on the counter and then he smiled and asked me if I knew who he was. It wasn't like "I'm a big deal", it was more like he was really interested in my answer. I told him I didn't and asked his name, which he gave me and then he thanked me anyway and walked out of the shop.
I looked at his drawing in the flour and then wiped it away with the cloth. Just who was Andy Warhol anyway?
