Shalford Mill
Shalford Mill is unfortunately not still working but has been beautifully conserved. It was the first National Trust Property to be donated, by a group of people known as the Ferguson Gang. When mills were ten a penny and being knocked down or converted, they decided to ensure that this one was kept intact for prosperity. Only recently have some of their true identities been discovered.
Run down and badly in need of work they hired an architect to restore it. His daughter now lives in a house behind the mill and takes an active part in the running of the building as an attraction.
I went down to speak to the custodian this morning. I have a photography group visiting in a few days time. They will be opening it especially for the group so there won't be other visitors when we go. One member has suggested it might be an interesting place to do some light painting so I thought that meeting me and explaining what is involved in advance, would be better than arriving with torches and tripods without warning. The woman was understanding and has given permission and I, as the only visitor on site, got a private tour.
As for the rest of the day... running around like a headless chicken and trying to avoid the relentless wind.
