A welcome visitor

We have grey herons by the score on the estuary and a heronry in the trees across the river but this is the very first time that I have seen one in our garden. A welcome sight indeed.

In ancient times the Greeks  thought that the cry of a heron  to the right marked a positive and promising omen. On this election day perhaps the appearance of the heron will bring unbridled joy and unity across the nation. Then again .......
