Core blimey.

A very exciting geological day. The photo shows part of a "core" 30 feet long which was screwed out of the ground in one of our most interesting geological sites. The material at the bottom of the core was 14,000 years old. And we had a distinguished Professor to explain it all to us.
This was just one part of the day long event organised by the local Landscape Trust Charity which protects and promotes the Arnside/Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
This morning we had six half hour lectures of very high quality about the geology of the area. This afternoon 50 members went in groups on this walk to Haweswater. It was full of interest.
A most satisfying day.
